CI Magazin 2017

Designers: Tobias Zabell and Nora Luther, Hoffmann und Campe X, Hamburg, Germany
Client: CI creative inneneinrichter GmbH & Co. KG., Darmstadt, Germany

CI MAGAZIN whets readers’ appetites for lifestyle and interior design. A generous layout, emotional images, and a wide variety of journalistic narrative forms such as interviews, home stories, and illustrations ensure the magazine is entertaining and informative for all readers interested in lifestyle and interior design. All of the products pictured are shown in a context that helps readers furnish their offices and homes. The magazine is published three times per year in an edition of 150,000. It is targeted at the customers of the top 40 furniture stores in Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein.

The magazine’s layout is based on a three-column text grid plus a fourth, flexibly usable margin column to which all of the design elements are oriented. The margin column can contain quotes or product information, for example. The grid creates an easily recognizable overall impression and ensures the pages can be arranged in a wide variety of ways. Pages with small design elements alternate with large-format ones and provide a diverse reading experience. CI MAGAZIN is completely devoted to extraordinary design, trends, and lifestyles. The magazine’s key topics are lifestyle, interior design, and work. The magazine presents current products and provides insights into the homes of the sector’s leading members in order to show how new conceptions of life can also be reflected in the readers’ own homes. To supplement this focus, the magazine also takes a look into the future and describes how furnishings and home life might change in the years ahead. One of the project’s special features is the editorials titled “Standpunkt” (Standpoint), which are written by designers and sector personalities who accompany an entire issue of the magazine. They provide comments at various points and describe how they would design a home in the section titled “Wie wir wohnen würden” (How we would live).
