Buckhead Park Over GA400 Atlanta, Georgia, USA | 2016

Architects: Rogers Partners Architects+Urban Designers
Landscape Architects: Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects

Client: Buckhead Community Improvement District (CID)

Buckhead Park Over GA400 provides much needed park space in a neighborhood known for high-end development, luxury malls and traffic congestion. Land previously considered residual becomes the front yard and center of the neighborhood. Undulating Piedmont terrain, direct transit access, and cultural opportunities present a rich landscape into which we weave this new signature public space.

The Park will reduce travel outside the district by offering high-quality programming. Accessible activities encourage delayed departure and peak hour congestion is diminished. It is an opportunity to enjoy leisure time after work or on the weekend without the use of personal automobiles. The park will also feature a dense cover of native trees, establishing a wildlife corridor and desirable edge condition habitat for birds and insects on a new layer above the park. Other green attributes include stormwater capture, noise mitigation of GA400 and natural ventilation and daylighting of the freeway below.
