WHOOP 2015

WHOOP is a performance optimization system that is revolutionizing the way elite athletes, coaches and trainers use physiological data to make decisions. It is currently used by professional athletes (including Lebron James), Olympians and teams across all major U.S. professional and collegiate sports leagues.

Many elite athletes are over-trained or not getting enough sleep, which can lead to poor performance and leave them susceptible to injury. While there are many products on the market that help them track activity, the WHOOP system is differentiated by its ability to monitor an athlete’s body 24/7 and provide unparalleled insight into whether someone is peaking physically, or in need of more rest.

No other product on the market can provide the array of physiological data that WHOOP does, thanks to the innovative design of its wrist-worn strap that can be charged on the go or during a night’s sleep. This sleek, minimalist wrist strap measures five key variables more than 100x per second: heart rate, heart rate variability, skin conductivity, ambient temperature and accelerometry.

On-the-go charging is made possible through a small modular battery pack, charged separately, which slides along the slots on the sides of the device, just under the clasp, and locks into place. It will fully charge the device in about 1.5 hours, and battery life lasts about a day and a half.

In designing a device that elite athletes will actually want to wear 24/7, fabrication and aesthetics are also very important. Adaptive to sweat and water, the WHOOP strap is incredibly lightweight and includes three layers of fabric and polyurethane, merging performance and comfort with style and simplicity. The near-medical grade sensor at its top is slim and discrete, so it won’t interfere with an athlete’s natural movements. Straps can be customized to reflect team colors and logos upon request.

The physiological data collected by WHOOP is streamed via Bluetooth to a sophisticated analytics platform. WHOOP presents data in a clear, easy-to-understand way to help athletes, coaches and trainers make training and game day decisions. Strain, Recovery and Sleep Performance Scores are presented via mobile app or desktop dashboard that features a simple, beautifully designed user interface.
